November 25, 2010 Pinks All Out last weekend at Firebird.
I guess Rich likes fast cars too. This from Ron....... Pinks was Great ! Tthe Crew had So much fun ! Cal Tebb (our other brother) drove for Corey, as Corey was busy tsking take of the Auction Business. The Crowds and the burnouts were big and loud! The Pinks episode will air Jan. 11. It is now time to get back to frosty Alberta, for the reality check. Losts of wrenching on the cars to get ready for next year. Ron and Cory want to give special thanks to their great sponsors (to the right) And all our new friends in Arizona and
all the new fans we met at every event from Edmonton and Calgary all
the way to Phoenix and Bakersfield this past season. We can't wait for
2011 already? Oct 31, 2010 The team had a great time at the Super Chevy Show at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. Both Ron and Corey ran great, with a number of 6.70 and 6.8 ets at over 200 mph. The race there was a specialty event put on by the Super Chevy franchise. They had 8 Nitro Funny Cars and the boyz from Drayton Valley. Corey and Ron had so much fun that they are going to run the "Pinks All Out" race there later this month. I'm trying to get a few photos from Phoenix, will post them if I get them.
Sept 27, 2010 The year was almost complete, just the banquet to come then we got an invite to Arizona the end of October and also for November. Scroll below for that exciting invite. Last weekend was the year end party and banquet at the Cree River Resort. Over 300 people attended the event and it was to say the least a huge success. Many items were auctioned including a Terry Capp rendering commemorating his 319 mph run at Castrol Raceway 5 years ago. Hope to have pictures up soon.
The Final two races of the year were held two weeks ago at Castrol and three weeks ago Drayton Valley. At Castrol, it was the CMDRA race and we were the feature exhibition class. It was scheduled to be a double header but the Sunday final did not get run due to inclement weather. Good buddy Eddy Plaizier took on Corey. Corey went 7.09 to reach the final. Eddy took the win, giving Corey the runner-up! On Sunday the final was rained out. Ron reached the final against Eddy after qualifying with a 7.003 on the 6.99 index. Eddy went 6.996 to get his spot in the final. Drayton Valley results Drayton Valley Photos (courtesy Carla Schneider)
At Drayton Valley it was the Sekura show as Corey won the Saturday race against Cory Kincaid and Ron won the Sunday race against Cal Tebb. Corey was the overall weekend winner and he took home the Mickey Thompson's courtesy Trail Tire and Darrell Budney.
The final point standings for the year saw Joey Steckler win the series just two rounds ahead of Cal Tebb. Corey and Ron finished tied for 3rd just a couple points back of Cal. It was a great year.
Sept 16, 2010 We get to race some more.....Yahoo!!!! Update after Spokane: When we were in spokane doing 1000ft. burnouts and Rocking the place with our tunes the 1st of August !! apparently we caught the eye of Firebird Raceway's owner Charlie of Phoenix. He TOLD his manager to GET us for a show at their "Super Chevy Weekend". Now , not only are we booked to put on a show Oct 23 and 24 for the Chevy weekend, they booked us for The" Pinks All Out" event Nov 20 and 21 August 17, 2010 The team along with three other Rocky cars were in Provost AB to put on an exhibition. It is the first time the town has put on a drag race. They are hoping to book in the association in 2011. Hot August Nights....
Hot August Nights Castrol Raceway. Ron went 199 on his second run pedaling the Trans Am for the first 200 feet. He also went an event best 7.04. Corey went 7.20
(below) Shane Reydal nade a couple runs in Cal's car. He has a new car which he hopes to debut in a year or so.

August 12, 2010 "Hot August Night" was a blast. Will have photos posted later this weekend. August 6, 2010 The Sekura's and three other teams will run at the Hot August Nights event at Castrol Raceway. The two Sekura cars had a blast at Spokane and even got chased by the Cops. Will try and get a few photos. The boys are also going to Provost on Aug 14 and 15 . Below is the coverage in DRM (IHRA's official publication). Click on it for a larger version. July 30, 2010 Mission Raceway Canadian National Open
Team Sekura is on a roll with three big wins in the last three races. Ron won again last weekend at Mission Raceway, going back to back at the National Open. With Corey's win at Edmonton three weeks ago the big target is on the back on the boys from Drayton Valley. On the way down to Mission, Ron, Corey and a few members of the team spent a day or two in Valemount BC. 24 Funny cars were at Mission including the 8 Rocky Mountain teams, 8 BB/FC teams and 8 Nitro Funny Cars. A big crowd both days at Mission as well made for a great weekend. The American BB/FC group was running on the same index as we were this weekend, a 6.90.
Testing Friday Ron drove the Trans Am at Mission and Corey was behind the wheel of the Camaro. Both drivers made two testing laps on Friday, and Corey ran a 7.0 best and Ron was in the 6.8's.
The team BBQ was hosted on Friday night and it was a blast. Saturday night after qualifying the teams were relaxed but still partied until after midnight. Eight cars were at Mission for the National Open. A unique qualifying set up was done for the Mission event as all the Rocky guys ran the NW BB/FC teams side by side. Ron bested his US opponents in both qualifiers and then went on to go 3-0 in eliminations to cap off a great weekend. After Friday's testing, Corey and his crew were doing some routine maintenance and found a few issues with the brakes so they did a major re and re on the system. That took much of Saturday afternoon but they still had time to talk and interact with the fans and allow a few lucky people to sit in both cars.
Ron lead qualifying with a 6.91 but first round not without a bit of excitement. After his burnout, Ron's car died on the track at 1000 ft. They towed the car off the track and made a couple adjustments and then got back into the staging lanes. He made a run after the rest of the teams. Corey qualified #4 with a 6.99 and he won his match-up against his American opponent.
The second session was run under the lights at around 9:00pm Saturday and it was a blast! Ron took on Don Harter and he took the race and qualified #1 with a great 6.91. Corey ran Royce Taylor and he too won his match up. Corey's best qualifying time was a 6.99, good for the #4 spot in the field.
Final qualifying:
1. 6569 '82 Trans Am, Ron Sekura, Drayton
Valley AB,6.916 Eliminations
Unfortunately for Eddy Plaizier and Cory Kincaid they broke in qualifying and could not run in eliminations. Ron had a single and so did Joey Steckler, so they paired up and ran each other as a grudge race. Ron got to the finish line first and had bragging rights.
Corey raced Cal Tebb and he got a big holeshot against Cal and got the win. Joey Steckler and Brent Murray were the other round winners. They would race each other in the semis and the brother's Sekura faced of in the other semi final. In the first pair Brent Murray got the win when Joey broke out by .004 of a second. In the big team pairing, both of the guys were hyped up and confident they would advance.
The boys did bog burnouts to 700 feet and then seemed to race backwards back to the starting line. Always the competitors for sure! The two back up girls also raced back.
Once they finished their burnouts and were back behind the starting line, they decided to put on a bit more of a show. Both drivers wacked their throttles a few times and if you could see them they were likely giving each other the "BIRD".
Both cars did a couple dry hops and then staged their rides. At the green, Ron got the holeshot, and was out in front comfortably by 300 feet. But you could see Corey was starting to reel Ron in. At the finish line the scoreboard read a perfect 6.90 for Corey and a 6.93 for Ron. The winner was....Ron! He had just enough of a holeshot to get to the finish line first, a half car length ahead of Cory. Off to the finals...... Ron would face Brent Murray in the final and it was his first time in the finals racing in the Rocky series. He was a veteran racer that has competed in Blown Alcohol race cars for a decade. But it was only the second race in a Funny Car. After the burnouts, both cars pre-staged. Brent has a clutch car and was bringing up the rev's and Ron staged. Brent went real high in the rpm's and had to lower them a bit, but he was still not staged. He just got his rpms right and was rolling in and the tree went green. Brent got timed out as the auto-start system determined he took longer than 7 seconds to stage and he was disqualified. A real tough way to lose and Brent took full responsibility for being slow. Ron took off on the single and ran a 5.88 @ 194 for the uncontested win. Brent took off but knew he was timed out.
You can see Brent well back as he left after Ron was well on his way.
It was another great weekend at the track,
and another win for the Sekura team.
July 29, 2010 The results from the National Open at Mission Last week are at the Rocky site. I will post a story here in the next couple days. Sorry for the delay, had a couple other issues this week. July 22, 2010 The team is on its way to Mission Raceway for this weekend's biggest NHRA event for Sekura's brothers racing. We race for a coveted Wally and the very cool Mission Cup presented by Ace Manufacturing. Plus according to sources we will be qualifying against our Buddies from south of the border in the BB/Fc assoc. The "BORDER BATTLE". Can't wait! July 21, 2010 The Stollery Hospital meet and greet was a great event last Sunday. Getting a chance to bring some sunshine to children who have had a real tough time makes everything we do worth while. Here are a few photos from Sunday's event.
July 14, 2010 A big thank you to Luxus Properties and Incite marketing. With everybody's help $35,000.00 was raised for the "CHILDREN'S WISH FOUNDATION " WOW we are surrounded by such wonderful people ! ! July 13, 2010 What a great couple days coming up for the Sekura Brothers Racing team. The boys will be at the Devon Golf Course Thursday for a charity auction on behalf of the Children's Stollery Hospital in Edmonton. Then Sunday, they will take the Camaro down to the hospital and will display it right in the hospital and have many of the kids get a chance to sit right inside. The kids who can't be moved from their wards will get a chance to meet Ron and Corey and have their pictures taken with the team. July 13, 2010
Corey gets his first ever win at this past weekend's CMDRA event at Castrol Raceway. The Rocky Mountain Funny Cars were the four wheel exhibition class at the huge Bike event at the Edmonton race track. Two races this weekend based on the Chicago style run off. Two qualifiers with the two closest to the 6.99 number going to the final each day. Corey ran the Camaro on Saturday and Ron ran it on Sunday. They are doing maintenance to the Trans Am in preparation for the NHRA National Open July 23-24. On Saturday Corey went 7.16 in the first run to sit #2 in the field. Joey Steckler was #1 with a 7.13. In the second round, Corey improved to a 7.08, and got the #1 seed (lane choice) for the final. Steckler's earlier 7.13 was good enough for the #2 spot. In the final both cars did big burnouts and were pulling up to stage, when Joey's clutch locked up and pulled him through the staging beams. Corey got an easy single to get his first ever win running a 7.16 Saturday night the teams got together for a fun evening of great food and socializing. On Sunday Ron ran the car, and did not have as much luck. He did not get in one of the two best ets, so he was kept out of the final. Joey made the clutch adjustments he needed to make, and won the Sunday race, taking out Cal. A real fun laid back weekend at Castrol. Next up is a huge Funny Car event at Mission Raceway. 32 funny cars will be at the BC track for the annual National Open.
July 5, 2010
A couple photos from team AMS. The engine builders for Corey and Ron's Funny Cars. Huge thank you's to the entire team for building such great engines. Without your hard work, we would not have won the Ironman.
June 30, 2010 The Trifecta last weekend at the Rocky Mountain Nationals, Crowd was huge, the after racing parties were the bomb and...oh ya....Ron won the event getting his first Ironman.
It was one of those weekends when everything turned out the way you would script it. First and foremost it was a flat out fun weekend. The entire event was great; our Funny Car assoc. is a great group of people to hang with. The entire Sekura team is a group that has the same Mission statement...."Fun, Fun, Fun"! We will spin our yarn....sit down and have a read. Friday was supposed to be day one of qualifying, and everyone was ready to go. The weather for the first 5 hours of racing was perfect, but you could see the clouds rolling in from the West. The feature classes (including the Rocky group, called Pro Nostalgia "A") were going to be one of the first groups up. Perfect, as we like to start off the show. Unfortunately, just before it was time, Mother Nature took hold of the area with 80km winds and a huge downpour. It only lasted 30 minutes, but it was enough to end the day without a run down the track. What to do, hmmm, let's party!!! So we did, had a great time, did some bench racing Christmas tree battles and even did some slippery slide races, awesome! Some hit the sack as late as dawn.
Saturday.... looked to be a great day; weather was going to be awesome all day right through the night. Everyone was so stoked. The IHRA decided since the Saturday sportsman time trials went so well, that they would give the features classes that had an actual qualified field an extra run at 3:00 pm Saturday... That was so awesome.... At 3:00 we all got into the lanes and made our first qualifier. The crew had both cars prepared perfectly. Ron and Corey were paired up against each other, and guess what...... they both did monster burnouts! What a surprise! On the run, Ron's Camaro was deadly.
Right off the launch you could tell it was on a good pass. Ron must have thought it was good too, as he pulled the chutes early, at 1200 feet (you don't want to go faster than a 6.99). The scoreboard lit up to a 7.001. Two thou away from a perfect run. Corey had a handful, but he left on Ron and that is always bragging rights. His car was loose and he was real close to the centre line at half track. He brought it back slightly, but it again drifted to the left. Corey kept the car in his lane, but he slowed a bit to a 7.49.
Between round one and two, The Rocky group had an autograph session with the poster from last year.
The kids loved talking to the drivers it and a bunch the adults as well. It was a good way to set up round two of qualifying.
Round two.... Still an awesome clear sky with the sun staring towards the starting line. The tree is a bit hard to read, but we were good to go. Ron's team did a few tweaks but it is hard to set the car up any better than the first run.
Ron ran Cal and Ron got a little out of the groove and had to pedal the car to get it back to the centre of the track. His ET and speed reflected the issues. A 7.47/177 came up on the scoreboards. His opponent went 7.05/198.
Corey made a great lap running beside Rod Elliott. The car left straight and ran a good 7.10/183 Elliott went 196 but it was just a 7.20. Final qualifying.....Under complete darkest at Castrol the fans were pumped for the Night of Fire session and so were the Rocky Mountain boys.
Corey ran Eddy Plaizier and Eddy kicked Corey's butt. Corey was on a decent pass, but the car was a bit loose and he lifted way early running 7.64 at only 135. Plaizier went a hair too quick, a 6.98/196. Only .005 off a perfect run. Too bad for Eddy, but Corey's bro' was still #1. Rod Elliott and Cal were second pair and they went 7.22 and 7.07, so no change in the order either. The final pair was Ron and Joey. Joey like Eddy was so close to a perfect run a 6.977/195 and Ron had a decent lap but his 7.22/190. After we ran the rest of the Night of Fire ending with the two awesome Jet Trucks. They made huge flames and lit up the sky at Castrol. A great way to end Saturday night on the track.
After the racing and the maintenance, the party began.... and man was it fun.
A huge spread of food, as a pot luck with every team bringing in a bunch of food. It was absolutely the best gathering in recent memory and we have had a lot of great gatherings Saturday nights after racing for the day. At least 100 people partaking in dinner, drinks, Christmas tree contests, music, bench racing and everything in between. We even had a bit of a birthday bash for Tiffany as she turned 23 on Monday. What a great night.............. Sunday race day!!!!
Corey ran Cal in round one, and this one was not what they wanted, the group loves close side by side and may the best man win. Cal's clutch got a bit overheated, don't know if Corey was a bit slow to stage or not, but Cal rolled through the staging lights and left before the tree was activated, giving Corey the automatic win. He ran a 5.53/179. The crew had to do a few adjustments to get it closer to a low "7". Ron was supposed to race John Child's but he broke in qualifying. Ron singled and had his car dialed in, as it ran a great 7.03@202 mph. Joey also won as did Brent Harris.
Semi Finals....... A Sekura would make it to the final round as Ron took on Corey in one semi and Joey ran Brent in the other.
I am only the web master and promo guy, but I am betting the boys said let's let it all hang out in the semi. Don't worry about the dial in, just let's go out and kick each other butts. May the best (or luckiest) guy win.
Two awesome side by side 400 foot burnouts to start the match up. The back up girls were enticing the fans with their own race down the track. The fans loved it.
Both cars back up, crew chiefs Morris and Don line the two 'showman' up, and their off. Corey drilled Ron to the tree, and was off like a shot. Ron could likely see Corey's tail lights from half track on as he took the finish line first, but not the win light.
He ran the quickest run of the weekend for the group, a stellar 6.815/195, unfortunately that only gives you personal bragging rights, not a spot in the next round (the final). Ron was also too quick, but his 6.975/196 was closer to the dial, so he was off to the final.
He would face Joey Steckler who nailed the index with a great 6.998, the only perfect run of the weekend (so far).
Final round........... Veteran Steckler and third year FC racer Ron "Mr. Excitement" Sekura. The crews had very little tuning to do for the final round as both cars were very close to the number. Steckler dead nuts and Sekura .015 off. Should be a great race..... And it was....
Both did long smokers, had their cute 'back up girls' bring them back into the crew chiefs spot. Both came forward, pre staged brought up the rpm's rolled in and then were off... Ron had the holeshot, but Joey was catching up.
At half track Ron had a 3/4 car length lead, but it was slowly fading. At 1000 feet the lead was less than 1/2 a car. At the stripe, Ron dropped the laundry, and it exploded open right at the finish line, he got the stripe, and a PERFECT run, right on the 6.99 index (a 6.994/183).
Joey was so close, but his later leave meant he had to run it out the back end, and he went too fast, a 6.94/200.
A great final, side by side 6 second ets. What a great weekend! The people, the race, the weather (two and a half days) and the social aspect was hard to beat.
The team celebrated for at least an hour going through the pits and having a great time
We can't wait for the next race.
Ron and Corey want to take the time to express their thanks to the entire team, their families and the whole Rocky Mountain group for their friendship and support. They also want to thank Castrol Raceway and the IHRA (including Aaron Polburn), who took the time to visit us in the pits after the race was complete, just to say how much he appreciated our groups effort. He said, "We keep the fun in racing" See you in two weeks. June 22, 2010 Ashcroft update Another thank you from a fan that was at Ashcroft's Loafers event 10 days ago. Hi Ron and
Corey, Calgary's Fathers Day Classic
Ron's best run at Calgary on Saturday was a 4.89/131 (1/8th mile). Corey's was a 5.27/125 On Sunday both guys drove the Camaro and Ron went 5.22/131 and Corey went 5.33/127. "The track was really rough and we wanted to make sure we saved the cars for next weekend's Rocky Mountain Nationals. We had a great time in Calgary and the fans really supported the Rocky Mountain Funny Car teams".
June 21, 2010 A great weekend at Calgary in front of our great home province fans. Ron's car was on a string all weekend run 4.8 ets to the 1/8 mile. Wiill have a report on the event later this week including photos. Our biggest race of the year is coming up this wekend at our home area Edmonton. 40,000 spectators watching us rip up the track in a 16 car field. We can't wait!! June 18, 2010 Update from Ashcroft. A fan sent off this email to Ron and Corey after his great experience at the 'Plex in meeting the Sekura race team I wanted to
say thank you once again, for your genourosity this weekend in ashcroft.
I am the crew chief for Darren Wolfram, who drives the 67 camaro, that
we brought to your pits for some photo ops!! Dave
Another photo from the Edmonton Track rental June 16, 2010 Some guys will do anything to be in the spotlight. You can tell there is a promoter inside Corey, one way or another he is going to get press and notice!!!
It was an eventful weekend for both the Sekura team and for the inaugural Rocky Mountain Nostalgia Funny Car association series event. Unfortunately some of it, was for the wrong reasons. The team had a blast though, and look forward to going to the next two events. Hopefully the bad luck is behind them. On to the weekend The team arrived Thursday evening and Friday morning, they had everything set up, and were ready to go out and make a test run on both cars. Corey got in the Trans Am but did not get in a full lap because the car felt loose, and it seemed to have a vibration. The team put on a new set of slicks and retired the old ones. In the Camaro the team just flat out had too much of a tune up in it, and Corey overpowered the track. Not much data for either car, but the team worked on the setups Friday evening, and made the likely necessary adjustments. Saturday round one Tiffany and Anita out pumping up the fans prior to Corey's run.
Corey smoking the hides
Saturday Corey was paired up with the other Corey (Kincaid), with and Ron was paired up with Cal Tebb. Corey got the excitement going for the team in the first run. As soon as he hit the loud pedal, the car pulled the wheels and then smoked the tires. He had a handful under him and struggled to control the car.
As you can see Corey's front end was up and then in the picture below the tires were starting to break loose
By half track the car was starting to drift to the left, close to the guard rail. It continued left and 300 feet past the finish line the car scraped the cement barrier. The parachute did come out and Corey managed to maneuver the car off the wall and he got it stopped in the shut down area. Corey got out of the car and assessed the damage. It could have been worse for sure. The left rear tire blew and the rim was bent up pretty bad. Of course the left header pipe was bend and folded up and was not usable. The left front tire did not blow, but he rim had a few nicks in it as well. Considering what could have happened, they got off pretty lucky.
Corey was of course upset at not only
damaging his ride, but also causing a delay to the program. The delay
in fact was not that long, and within 20 minutes the cars were back
on the track. Corey's crew headed back to the pits with their wounded
ride to assess the damage. Corey's wife Lorena was visibly upset, but
Corey assured her he was fine.
Strong burnout as usual for Ron , the car felt ready.
He was racing Cal Tebb and both cars did solid burnouts, with Ron going to well past the 660 foot marker. He staged and the car left real strong and was side by side with Cal for the first 200 feet. It then got loose and he had to lift early turning in a slowing 9 second pass.
It launched great but got loose early.
"Ah the sound of hp, and the smell of rubber", Ron is in his element here on the second run burnout Another strong burnout but again the car got loose and he was forced to lift early, the car improved to an eight second pass, but not what they wanted.
As you can see Ron was out of the groove early on the second hit.
Tiffany still had a smile on her face.
An unfortunate turn of events for Brent Murray became a lucky break for Corey. Brent wounded his motor on the second pass, so he allowed Corey to use the wheels and tires on his car. They took the header off Ron's car after his second lap, and went out and made a test run at the end of the day. Corey ran a respectable 7.19. Back at the pits though, they found that the threads in the motor on the header side had worn and the header actually had separated from the block. The blower restraint straps keep the left header from exiting the car. They were lucky on that deal.
Saturday night all the teams got together
had had a huge feast in the Sekura pits.
The partying and good times were not put on the backburner despite a not so great day. The food, benchracing and entertainment went well into the evening. This group of racers are a whole lot of fun!!
Sunday day two: Ron was out in the first pair against Gary Hough in his blown altered. Ron did the burnout and noticed a lack of oil pressure in the car and he shut off, as he did not want to do any internal damage.
You can see the dejection as Ron leans against the guardrail after shutting down his car after the burnout.
He could only sit back and watch his competitor Corey Kincaid run a 7.19.
Without oil pressure, even though most times it is just the gauge that is the issue you can't risk it. Corey went out a short time later and he re installed the header off Ron's car, and for the second time bad luck struck the younger brother. (note: back at the race shop no issues were found with th engine in the oiling department so the team is set for Calgary)
A good burnout above. You can see the damage on the left side of the car below.... unfortunately it gets worse at the end of the run below.
Corey did his burnout and all looked good for the first half of his run. But then, the car moved again to the left (he was in the right lane this time and was on a single).
The car kept moving left until it took
out the 1000 foot and the 1320 foot centre timing cones. It also did
more fiberglass damage to the front of the car this time.
Back to the pits, the team inspected the nose of the car and were already planning to get the car repaired in time for both Calgary this coming weekend and Edmonton next weekend.
Pit Notes:
Not the greatest opening weekend for sure, but Corey certainly did give the fans a bunch of excitement, and the crowd responded with great enthusiasm as well. On a high note, Darren Wolfram was out in his very nice silver camaro and Ron and Corey had his car on display beside their funny cars.
Wednesday update: Ron wanted to take the time as well to
express his thanks to the entire team and the family for their hard
work and time they put it. "You guys are what this is all about.
We did not get the results we wanted on the track but man we sure had
fun"!!!!! June 13, 2010 What a wild weekend, right Corey. The cars while not going to the winners circle at Ashcroft, did impress the fans. The Trans Am is going to need a facial for sure, and rumor has it Corey may have a new job with the assoc. More Monday and Tuesday with lots of photos.
June 6, 2010 A great weekend at Castrol for the Sekura Brothers fun day at the Edmonton Race track. Their sponsors got in laps in their cars as well as a couple burnouts in the Trans Am. Eddy Plaizier made a few runs in the ACE Funny Car. The team wants to thank the race track personnel for all their hard work. Scott, one of the owners of Stetson BChev Olds did a burnout in the Trans Am and said it was "Awesome". The talk around the track, was "when are me going to do this again". Next weekend they, along with all the Rocky Mountain boys will be at Ashcroft for the Langley Loafers race. June 3, 2010 The Stetson Chev display from last week.
Khal's Steakhouse
June 2, 2010 We are going to have fun Friday at Castrol as we rented the track. The Sekura Bros. have rented Castrol Raceway and will be inviting a bunch of their friend to come out and have a blast on the 1/4 mile. Included will be a number of the Rocky Mountain teams and other racers and friends. May 31, 2010 Only 10 days before the first event at the Eagle Motorplex June 11-13, 2010
May 22, 2010 The May 20th warm up party at Khal's Steak house was a huge success. The boyz even did a couple burnouts in the parking lot, and a few other race cars got invovled also (hey guys, hopefully it was work safe, Ron and Corey hehe!!!)
MAY 6, 2010 GOOD OLD BOYS TEST AND TUNE >>>>>>>>>YOUR
INVITED<<<<<<<<<<
After the Test and Tune we invite everyone
to hang out with us for a barbecue, some beverages and more fun. Arrival times: 7pm till 9pm June 3rd,
Thurs. night OR 8:30 till
Friday June 4th April 30, 2010 May 12th The team will be at their newest sponsor Stetson Motors with both cars, and they will fire em up. Wonder how many Chevy's on the lot will total the 3000 hp the two Funny Cars produce? Update.......May 15th is the date at the Drayton Vally Omniplex for the Rotary Club not the 14th. Then May 20th is the warm up party at Khal's Steak house.
April 28, 2010 The boyz have the m,ade the repairs to the Camaro, and discovered issues with the valves which likely caused the problems with both cars. The Trans Am should be ready to go in a couple weeks. The team we will feature the race cars for the Rotary Club in Drayton Valley on May 14. It will be to promote the to Promote Thunder in the Valley race at Drayton Valley. THey would also like to announce that Stenson Motors in Drayton Valley has come on board as a new team sponsor. April 11, 2010 The team is in Arizona this weekend at Speedworld for the 'All Pontiac Drags'. So the Trans Am gets its first laps of the season. We will have a few up photos up later this weekend. More photos highlights are here. Here is Ron's Speedworld notes: (Bob Snyder photos).
We found an all Pontiac race at SpeedWorld Dragstrip in Arizona. A nice track on the N.W. side of Phoenix. Morris debuted as Crew Chief with Don as Crew . Our 1st. run Fri. night we got loose at 100 feet, pedalled and still ran 7.50 at 191 mph. The Trans Am sounded great. We felt we we're dialed in. Back in the pits while we were warming for the 2nd run we noticed oil blowing out the pipes. We did a leak test and values did not tell us anything. We tore down and found a problem with the intake gasket. We bolted it all back together. Sounded strong at startup. Waited until 10 pm for our second run. After a respectable burn out. We shut off after a knock started. Sunday morning we took the heads off and found we had dropped a valve. That's Racing. Now back to Edmonton and wrenching.
Go here for more photos. A SIDE NOTE. On the go cart track. Ron won 1st race. Don 2nd race. But Don was the only driver to end up on top of the tire barrier wall. April 9, 2010 The Boyz are having a "Blast Off Party" the May long weekend. Go to the schedule page for all the info. A few more photos from the March Meet are here. March 13, 2010 A COUPLE SHOTS OF THE 7.10 LAP FROM FRIDAY (Paul Grant photos) A few more shots are on their way. Ron is back in Edmonton but is itching to get back on the track. He and Corey will be in Tucson in a month to run the Trans Am.
March 11,2010 Just a short update today as I have a remote Internet connection. Ron ran the March Meet and qualified #3, after the first qualifier with a 7.10. The event had rain interrupt racing for most of Saturday as only the nitro cars got in a lap. Sunday saw the final qualifier in the morning and unfortunately Ron had the mag rotor cap come loose which caused a chain reaction of issues, including the burst panel letting go. With the rushed schedule, there was not enough time to make the necessary repairs, so they ended up on the side lines. His final qualifying spot was #10, with only the one complete run. A pretty good start, but not the ending the Sekura team was hoping for. The team will be back out in action at Tucson in a few weeks with the second car. There, Corey will be behind the seat to hopefully get the Trans Am dialed in. We will have a full array of photos up from the March Meet in the next few days as soon as the Internet issues are sorted out. March

Got a picture text from Ron Sunday evening, they were loading up and heading to Bakersfield for the fabled March Meet. Ron' is running in the 7.0 index class, and will race a barrage of FED's, Doorcars, Floppers and everything in between. Tough competition, but I think he can handle it. Besides Ron, a couple other Rocky Mountain guys are competing, including Cal Tebb (who sold Ron and Corey the Camaro) and Joey Steckler. The are going to Party!!!!! We will have updates throughout the weekend. The Sekura Bros. Race team are relatively new in the Funny Car ranks, but they have made a splash in just three short years. Successful business men during the 9 to 5, they love to let loose on the weekends. Having raced bracket cars Monster trucks and everything in between, they got the serious Drag Racing bug just a couple years ago. Ron was the first to drive, and it was hard for him to give Corey the steering wheel at the very next event. Corey was hooked as well. It was only natural (they are brothers afterall) that they would race in the same class and travel together, but on the track they like nothing better than to outdo each other. If Corey goes 1000 feet on his burnout Ron will make it 1100 feet the next run. It got to the point where they decided why not just go side by side for close to 1320 feet, or the entire 1/4 mile. They put on such a great show last year at the Rocky's, that the President of the IHRA (Aaron Polburn) made notice of their exploits in an issue of the "Drag Review". To get mentioned by the 'boss' at an event where the class was not one of the regular professional classes, must have meant they had made an impact. Here is Polburn's quote in Drag Review for 2009. "Have there ever been two cars that do better burnouts than Ron and Corey Sekuras Auctioneers-sponsored Pro Nostalgia Cars"? "Speaking of the Sekura brothers, they were involved in one of my top-five moments ever at a drag strip. On Saturday night, the final strains of the Canadian national anthem were sung and the place roared. The Sekura brothers had just started side-by-side quarter-mile burnouts when straight down the track came a Canadian Forces F-16 fighter jet. The place went crazy. It was everything that is good about our sport. It was spectacle. It was loud. It was over-the-top. And best of all, it was unexpected". The above intro gives you some insight into the brothers. They are about letting loose on the weekend and having some serious fun. Check back often for all the updates on the team as they travel from the Canadian Prairie's all the way to sunny Southern California in 2010. This page will have the results from all the events they compete at this year. Click on the other self explanitory links above. A quick note from Ron: We had such a GREAT season last year! With our wins in Mission and Edmonton and our National team award. After September, I started to miss everything about racing right away. Our racing friends - our crew - the smell of the track, fuel, tires - the fun. But mostly the burnouts ! ! We tore the Cars down right away and sent everything off for inspection and freshening. Louie and the boys at AMS engines are so fantastic ! By Christmas we were putting the girls back together. The Camaro was in the Auto show in Jan. The first fire up is just after Valetine's Day. We managed to get alot of business done, and Nancy and I had a wonderful vacation. I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to our crew - the best crew ! and our Sponsors. Also best wishes to those crew members moving on. Hopefully on to bigger and better.
Next up
-Bakersfield in March- oh ya, can't wait!! Another season finally begins.
I must say I have the greatest brother. He's the best friend and best
racing buddy/partner I could have . Thanks Corey!
